Be Safe with Electric Space Heaters

The weather is getting colder and you may find yourself adding a space heater in a room or office.

Never Use a Power Strip with a Space Heater

Here is why you should never use an extension cord or power stripe for a space heater. Either of these are not designed to handle the high current flow needed for a space heater.  They can over heat and even catch fire due to the added energy flow.

Using an extension cord can also be a bad idea if you do not have a cord that can handle the extra current. Plus, the connection between the cord and the space heart can also be a place where current resistance can be high causing heat, a meltdown or even fire.

Always plug an electric space heater into the wall outlet direct.  That is the safest way to connect a space heater to a power source.

You can always trust the Omaha electricians at Signature Electric.  Call us at 402-521-3165 if you have any questions about electrical issues in your home or business.
