The easy answer is YES. LED lights are much more efficient in using electricity. By making the change to LED you might realize 80 to 90% savings in cost of electricity to light your home.
LED bulbs have come down in price which makes the switch to LED lights much more affordable as well.
Another question might be, “Can switching to LED lighting save you money?”
Well, that depends. LED replacements exist for most standard and many specialty bulbs; so making the upgrade to LED is usually as easy as changing a light bulb.
Consider places in your home that are difficult to access or where bulbs are frequently burning out. LEDs last for many years without requiring replacement. You can avoid getting that tall ladder out so often by replacing the bulbs with LEDs. Making the change to LED can save you time and help you avoid awkward, difficult, and dangerous bulb changes.
There are situations when changes have to be made to allow LED bulbs to work properly in your home. For example, although there are LED replacements for fluorescent fixtures, they may not work with every fixture. You may find that an old fluorescent fixture needs to be replaced. Dimmable LEDs are available, but they require modern dimmers; and not all modern dimmers will work with all dimmable LED bulbs.
Dimmer switch examples
The change is relatively simple, you need to buy a properly rated LED dimmer switch by a reputable manufacturer. Make sure the new switch is UL listed.
Many homeowners can make the change themselves by turning off the power to the lighting circuit and replacing the dimmer switch with a new LED compatible dimmer switch. A word of caution; you really do need to know what you are doing. If you try to do the work yourself and get lost, call an electrician sooner than later. Many 1 hour jobs have been turned into 4 hour jobs by homeowners who took everything apart before calling the electrician.

Replacing Fluorescent Tubes with LEDs
This is also possible. There are some tubes that are a straight replacement and do not require replacing the fixture or removing the ballast in the light fixture. What you may find is that LED tubes that can be used with a fluorescent ballast are more expensive and not as efficient. This reduces the savings you might realize.
A better option would be to buy the LED replacements that require the fluorescent ballast to be removed and the fixture to be rewired so the LED tube can be used in it. We can certainly help perform this task and provide the correct LED light bulb for your home, replacing fixtures as well when needed.
LED Color Range
Have you ever considered the color of the light when you purchased light bulbs before? It all has to do with color temperature range as measured in degrees Kelvin.
Most of the time, standard incandescent bulbs were in a warmer color range; 1,000-2,000 degrees K. You could also buy Cool White bulbs which offer a brighter or whiter light; 4,000-6,000 degrees K.
The same holds true for LED bulbs. Manufacturers are getting wise to this by not only listing the color range on a box, but also coloring the box to indicate the color range.
When buying LED bulbs be sure to check the color range of the bulb to match what you want to use if for; living space you might want a warm color, kitchens and work spaces a brighter or whiter color.
You can see using the image above there are numbers 1,000 to 10,000 degrees Kelvin. The higher the temperature number the cooler or bluer the light.
Color temperature helps you shape the mood of the room. When buying LED lights, be sure to consider the color of the light and where you might use it.
Upgrading to LED Lighting Saves
Upgrading to LED lighting can save you money, especially in those areas where lights are on a great deal of time. Over the life of the bulb, you can expect an 80-90% in the cost of electricity.
When you need to replace a switch or fixture the payback may take more time, but in the end, it will save you money.
If you are undertaking a remodeling project, always consider making the upgrade to longer-life, energy efficient LED lighting systems. You will be glad you did.
